Against a side second from bottom of the league, New Beccs dominated the first 10 minutes and scored early; Richard Skipper placing a deft flick from the left hand side of the D past the keeper. Then things went astray and New Beccs found themselves under the cosh for most of the rest of the game. Folkestone fielded a mixture of wiley veterans with some promnising youngsters. The elder statesmen formed the spine of the team and two of them started to control midfield, whilst a second duo went man-to-man on New Beccs forwards (Nick, Mark, Steve and Panos rotating). New Beccs' passing deteriorated and they struggled to get the ball forward. The defence (Ray, Dan, Paul Evans and Kevin) meanwhile were playing out of their (unmatching) socks to keep the opposition from scoring. Then a break came for the 2s when Steve picked up a bouncing ball at a tight angle to the right of the goal and his shot struck Nick and went in. Although nobody saw it, Nick very honestly (yes, we have since spoken to him about it) confessed that the ball went in of his foot, so celebrations were cut short. Soon afterwards, Folkestone equalised but there was also a foot in the build up to this one, which everybody but the umpire saw. Probably because of Nick's actions earlier, the home side admitted the offence and the goal was struck off. The game finished 1-0 to New Beccs but it was probably one we got away with.
